Coding error in HTML area

I have just edited an htmlarea area in source code view. I presumably made an error in my HTML coding and on saving the record, everything from the error to the end of the field was lost. Very annoying!! Is there any way of preventing this from happening again? In the meantime, I’ve deciced to edit with an external text editor and copy/paste the whole field, but this is not really a satisfactory long-term solution.

I have seen this before once (I think) but wasn’t able to solve it. Is it a particular character in the field input that causes the crash?
